Questions and Answers
Why do I need a work visa?
In order to work in a country you need a visa that enables its bearer to work. If a visa does not enable you to work, then you are not able to be lawfully employed in that country.
What happens when my visa expires?
A non-citizen of a country whose visa expires becomes unlawful and is liable for detention and removal from that country. If you become unlawful and this fact is known to the Department of Immigration, you will not necessarily be immediately detained; and you may be able to be granted a bridging visa.
You should be aware that by becoming unlawful your right to apply for or be granted a visa in the future may be severely restricted.
What are the chances of success of my visa application?
Fees payable to the government of the country you wish to immigrate to vary for permanent, temporary and other resident visa applications.
Depending upon the class of visa for which you apply, you may also need to pay an additional fee for the following: a preliminary assessment of your occupation by the relevant professional assessing body, police checks, health examinations, English language testing, as well as our fees that are based on a fixed price and are paid according to the stages of the application.
Can I hold more than one visa at a time?
You can not hold more than one visa at the same time. If a new visa is granted, any existing visa that you hold will cease.
What happens to my visa in the event of theft or loss of my passport?
Losing a passport does not affect the visa granted to you. Your passport contains evidence of the grant of the visa rather than the visa itself. The visa is the permission that is given to you to travel to, enter and/or remain in the country that issued you the visa.
You should obtain a new passport from the country that issued your passport and present your new passport at the relevant visa office of the country that issued you the visa for re-evidencing of the visa. In most instances, there is a fee for re-evidencing of the visa.
What is the points test?
Canada, New Zealand, Britain and Australia have skilled migration programs that are based on the professional skills and experience of the applicant. In order to qualify for such a program one must obtain a certain number of points. Points are given for level of education, level of English, a specific profession, recognized foreign language skills, years of experience, tertiary studies in that country, spouse skills and specific jobs in demand. Please refer to the individual country-skilled migration program for further information.
